July 4 is one of America’s favorite holidays. The patriotic celebration surrounding this special holiday reminds us of our founding as a nation and points to a time when the struggle for freedom had a high price. In similar fashion our freedom from the bondage of sin and death and the redemption of our souls came with a high price as well.
Gal 4:3 Even so we, when we were children, were in bondage under the elements of the world: reminds us of our bondage, but Rom 8:2, For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death; reminds us of our freedom.
Bringing both together, a team from Heartland took time on July 4 to set up a booth at Harrisonville City Lake to share the sweet taste of ice cream and the sweet word of God to everyone who came to watch the fireworks. Even in the occasional rain showers the team headed up by Pat Lee was able to give out over 600 copies of the Gospel of John and Book of Romans.
These booklets were provided by the ministry of Word First Bible Publishing, who assembled these John and Romans booklets in preparation of sharing them with as many people as possible. The outreach team consisted of over 25 people from HBF, who had a great time sharing the love of God, fellowshipping together over grilled hamburgers and hotdogs and celebrating the freedom we have in this country to openly distribute the word of God.
We are grateful to Ed Bylina who helped us by providing 500 servings of ice cream and toppings to give away as we gave out the word of God. Many people were introduced to the God of heaven and while no one accepted Jesus Christ as savior that evening, we know that as God promises his word does not return void. There were many who were reminded that their freedom from sin came at a cost but it is free to those who would receive it.
e anticipate doing outreaches to distribute the word of God several times a year. If you would like to be a part of the assembly or distribution please contact Randy Foster or Pat Lee.
