A Recap of the Heartland Baptist Fellowship 2025 Discipleship Training Conference

The Heartland Baptist Fellowship's 2025 Discipleship Training Conference was a time of profound spiritual enrichment and fellowship. Attendees were privileged to learn from Pastor Tony Godfrey of Harvest Baptist Church in Iola, KS, and Pastor Brian Hedges, both of whom delivered powerful messages focused on the heart of discipleship.

Pastor Tony Godfrey: Plowing the Field and Cultivating Truth

Pastor Tony Godfrey brought a wealth of practical experience and a deep-seated passion for local church ministry. Pastor Godfrey's message, "Plowing the Field through Discipleship," drew heavily from 1 Thessalonians 3:1-3. He emphasized the crucial expectations placed upon those engaged in disciple-making. He outlined the tools necessary to "plow the field" by being available, being qualified, and to be leading others. Pastor Godfrey further delved into the practical application of Philippians 4:8-9. He stressed that those who are leading disciples of Christ must lead disciples to know the truth and to walk in the truth.  

Pastor Brian Hedges: The Heart of Discipleship

Pastor Brian Hedges brought deep theological insight and the ability to connect biblical truths to everyday life.  Pastor Hedges' message, "The Heart of Discipleship," focused on the critical aspects of stewardship, drawing from 2 Timothy 2:2. He emphasized that discipleship is not merely about imparting information, but about entrusting the Gospel to faithful individuals who would, in turn, replicate the process. He explained the generational aspect of discipleship, showing how the Gospel is passed from one generation to the next. Hedges outlined the characteristics of those who are fit for discipleship, emphasizing faithfulness, teachability, and a commitment to biblical truth. He stressed that the goal of discipleship is not simply to create followers, but to create disciple-makers who would multiply the impact of the Gospel. He also made it clear that without the work of the Holy Spirit, all human efforts to make disciples are in vain. Pastor Hedges' engaging and thought-provoking presentations challenged attendees to deepen their understanding of God's Word and live out their faith with greater purpose and conviction. He also taught on the spiritual disciplines, the theology of suffering, living a gospel centered life, and the importance of grace.
