Sharing the Light—and the High Notes—at the Community Christmas Tree Lighting
The past two Saturdays were a joyful blur of laughter, music, and ministry as Heartland Baptist Fellowship brought food, refreshments, and the gospel to the community Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony. And while the Christmas lights dazzled, the real spark came from the unforgettable moments we shared!
Take, for instance, the moment Vicky Slyster took the stage. With her signature soprano, she sang beloved old gospel hymns that floated on the chilly evening air. But when she hit High-C, it was as if the heavens opened...and maybe a few cabinet doors too. There were reports of dishes rattling, children clutching their ears (in amazement, we’re sure!), and a particularly brave dog howling along in harmony. Some said it was a once-in-a-lifetime performance—others just prayed their China sets survived!
And then there was Sherry Jo Walker. Oh, Sherry. With her one-of-a-kind "aca-polka" flair, she transformed the evening into a raucous, joyful sing-along. By the end of her performance, the entire crowd was singing and praising Jesus with their whole hearts. Whether they were tapping their toes, clapping their hands, or swaying along with the music, everyone was reminded of why we celebrate this season: the good news of our Savior's birth.
Between the music, hot cocoa, and countless gospel tracts handed out, God’s love was on full display. Moments like these remind us of the beauty of sharing not just cookies and coffee but the hope of Jesus Christ with our community.
Last Saturday, a man approached our booth, lured by the coffee but caught by curiosity. “Why are you all so cheerful? Is it the sugar?” he asked, grinning. One of our volunteers quickly replied, “Nope, it’s the joy of Jesus—and maybe a little caffeine!” That sparked a 10-minute conversation about the true meaning of Christmas. By the end, the man left not only with a cup of Joe but also with a gospel tract and a lot to think about.
This outreach reminded us all of a simple yet powerful truth: while we served cookies, cider, and coffee, God was serving something eternal—His love, joy, and peace to every person who passed by. To everyone who volunteered, prayed, or stopped by to encourage us, thank you for being part of our mission to share the light of Jesus this Christmas season. Let’s keep shining together!
Thank you to everyone who served, sang, and celebrated with us. We can’t wait to see how God uses these seeds of joy and truth in the hearts of those we met.
Merry Christmas, Heartland Baptist Fellowship!
