God brought another wonderful speaker to HBF last night! Brother Bob Weston of Jamaica sang and preached a wonderful message called "It is time to look in the mirror". He also shared his testimony. After preaching Bob answered questions and many were interested in joining Harvest Baptist of Blue Springs on a winter trip to Jamaica to help preach the gospel to the 1000 souls reached through Christ in Action's Christmas outreach.
Bob is a true evangelist who is actively preaching the gospel on a daily basis. He reminds me of Leo Humphrey and I'm so thankful God has introduced him to our church family. Bob Personally knew and worked with Harold Nichols and Randy Hentzel, who were tragically murdered this past week as they commuted to a remote location to oversee a construction project. Though Jamaica is a warm, friendly country with a rich Christian history, Bob shared the strategic nature of the gospel ministry in Jamaica. It would appear that Islam has targeted Jamaica as one of their least reached countries making the strategic nature of the gospel ministry in Jamaica is very apparent.
Bob was very thankful for the bibles we were able to send along with help from our sister church in the Living Faith Fellowship, Harvest Baptist of Blue Springs. We along with Midtown Baptist Temple are committed to providing bibles annually for use in Jamaica through the ministry of Bob Weston and Christ in Action.
If you were not present to hear Bob's Message you should find it on our website and listen. It was an excellent exposition and application of the word of God and special moment in the life of HBF.
The message summary with a few notable quotes is listed below:
Title: It's Time To Look In The Mirror
Text: 2 Corinthians 3:17-18 & 4:1-2,7
Introduction: Humans are the only creatures with an innate need to look in the mirror. It is necessary for evaluation. The lost man will see vanity but the Christian will see the righteousness of Christ as we should be changed into his very image. For the believer looking into the word of God produces change that reflects the image of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Point I: The Mirror Reveals our Purpose To Live. Christ is our purpose to live.
Notable quotes: "Don't take a rock and break the mirror for it is simply speaking the truth about what it sees."
"You have never seen a U-haul follow a hurst to the graveyard" (Implication that we cannot take our stuff with us and life is short so we should invest wisely.)
Point II: The Mirror Reveals a Pattern for Life. Christ is our pattern for life.
Notable quotes: "The Holy Ghost didn't come into our lives so he can be a spectator, he came into our lives to take control."
"The Holy Ghost is not a spectator. Likewise the Holy Ghost is not a dictator, we can quench and grieve the Holy Spirit when we don't obey the word of God."
"We should not be surprised when we see people being killed and destroyed for that is what the bible says men will do in their lost condition." (By implication we should then go forth and preach the gospel because Jesus is the solution to every problem.)
Point III: The Mirror Reveals A Privilege to Embrace. Serving Christ and sharing the gospel is a privilege we should embrace.
Notable Quote: "There are people who have children but never are parents" (Can I get an Amen both spiritually and physically)
My short comments do not do justice to the influence of the Spirit upon Bob as he preached. You will just have to go and listen and pray about your part in getting the word to the world. There are many opportunities at HBF and this is not the only field. Start by taking the gospel to the world today at your job, school, market place, wherever you go. It will not be long before God is using you to influence souls with the gospel all over the world.
