This year’s third annual NSW is quickly approaching (8-29-15), and in addition to requesting funding from corporate sponsors online, we will be asking our leaders and students to seek pledges from their friends, family, and businesses again. We raised approximately $8500 each of the first two years at our walk, but my goal this year is $12,000, because our expenses are about $1000 per month. Supporters can always give online at www.lifeissuesonline.org by clicking on the “DONATION BUTTON”, or by marking their Heartland Baptist Fellowship (HBF) offering envelope “Life Issues”. We will be finalizing the details of our walk at a meeting held at HBF on July 20th at 6:30pm, all are welcome to attend.
July 10th will be a significant Life Issues meeting, because it will be the first time that we will have a small group designed specifically for teens. Lucinda Pennington and her daughter will lead this small group and her first topic will be “stinkin thinkin”, so feel free to invite a teen that you know. We should also have our new trifold available for distribution that night.
In an effort to enlarge our borders in the community and reach more people with the liberating truth of Christ, Life Issues will have a booth at the “Changed Lives Ministry” event that is being held on July 25th in Peculiar MO from 1-6pm (call me if you need more details). We will also be having a booth at the Burnt District Festival in Harrisonville MO, on October 2nd, and 3rd.
We currently have 48 people signed up to receive our mass texting service; if you have not yet signed up or are unsure how, please call or text Jim Stovall at 816-877-5825, to get in-the-loop better.
Royal Schlagenbush and I just finished re-writing lesson #1 of our TATs (Truth About Temptation) program, which is our Life Issues “Program”, so we will be using it with the two new folks who have recently signed up, and with everyone from this point forward. We are adding questions to the end of each lesson, so as to be able to use our material to correspond with inmates (I’m currently working with one young man). We hope to distribute and roll the lessons with questions, out to everyone at the annual meeting in November / December.
We have free CD’s of Del Litle’s testimony available upon request, which was aired on the international radio program “Unshackled”. God is using this Del’s salvation story to do “exploits” (Daniel 11:32b – KJV), and we rejoice!
We have many things to rejoice about, we heard a great testimony from Jeff Dethloff last Friday of how God brought him from the depths of depravity and depression, to dependence upon Christ. Jeff is on track to become our first student to graduate from our TATs program and we’re very proud of him! Lauren Stovall gave a moving testimony on 6-30, and one young lady rededicated her life to Christ after hearing of how Christ worked in Lauren’s life, PTL! The Tuesday night meetings are growing (15 in attendance this week), and they are having someone new show up almost every week!
June also had its share of disappointments too, one student arrested for a drug possession charge, another arrested for DWI, and I heard of a former student who was also arrested. I’m currently working to help a lady to get out of an abusive relationship and into a rehab facility, so we need prayer for God to make a way where there seems to be no way, in the lives of those in our ministry. I’m reminded that the truth, and only the truth makes free, but we have to apply it personally.
Sincerely, Steve Fleshman – Life Issues pastor and founder, Proverbs 4:23…
