Steve Fleshman

After my salvation (see “my testimony”) in 1992, God opened a door for us to become members of Kansas City Baptist Temple (KCBT), and for the next four years we soaked up the awesome preaching and teaching of God's word at that great church. I went through levels I & II of their discipleship programs, and also their in-house, four year, Shepherd's School of Ministry. I have taken two foreign mission trips (Costa Rica & Belarus / Russia) and one discipleship trip (Indianapolis, IN), and have been involved in several other ministries. Then, when the opportunity arose, we were among about 50 adults who were sent out of KCBT to start Grace Baptist Church, in Overland Park, KS. I became a deacon there and taught Discipleship I, II, and various other Sunday school classes during our eight and a half years there. After Grace Church's leadership changed their views on Bible versions, we decided to change churches, because we felt that it was best for our family to worship God at a church that only used the King James Bible as their standard. We believe that God led us to make Heartland Baptist Fellowship in Harrisonville, MO, our church home, and on August 14, 2005, it became official, and look forward to serving the Lord there. I currently minister with my son with “The Keys Are at the Cross Prison Ministries”, through KCBT, primarily at the ICC facility in Warrensburg, MO. I thank God for his mercy, and his son, Christ Jesus my Lord “ who hath enabled me, for that he counted me faithful, putting me into the ministry ” (1 Timothy 1:12).

I have also been writing weekly devotions for a couple of years, primarily as a ministry to some of my co-workers, friends, and family members. Although I know nothing yet as I ought to know (1 Corinthians 8:2), “b y the grace of God, I am what I am” (1 Corinthians 15:10), and I desire for my writings to be Biblically sound and Christ honoring. While I do use concordances and commentaries; my commentators have mostly been Christian men and women, who I hold in high esteem, that have invested their time and energy to teach me the scriptures. I believe that we live in a society where the majority of people have little or no, understanding of the Bible, so my writings are designed to be interesting, well studied, yet easily understood, and will hopefully educate my readers and develop even more hunger in them for the Word of God. 1 Chronicles 16:23b says to, “ …shew forth from day to day his salvation .”, so my desire is to eventually have 365 individual devotions, so that I can literally show forth God's salvation each day of the year! If / when I reach the 365 devotions mark, I would like to publish them in a book, as a way to preserve for my children, the studies of their father, so that they can draw strength from my relationship with God.

I credit my wife, Angie, for faithfully staying by the stuff, to afford me the time and energy to pursue this and other aspirations. Angie is a diligent keeper of our home, and a virtuous mother to our children; Luke and Sarah. Angie has also been through Discipleship levels I & II, and has helped to do the pre-marital counseling and discipleship of others with me. Angie is so supportive of me and I love her with all my heart, “ as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it ” (Ephesians 5:25). As I stated earlier, our son, Luke, assists in witnessing and counseling with me to the inmates in a prison ministry that is supported through our local church. Luke has also spent nine months as a short-term missionary in Durres, Albania, working with two other Americans and four Albanians, to plant a Bible-believing church in that city. Sarah is also an active student of the Bible and has just competed reading it through for the first time. Sarah is full of life and is really a bright spot in my life. Both of our children are saved and have a desire to see others saved. Sarah just recently helped win a friend of hers to Christ, I praise the Lord for that and I praise the Lord for my family!

I approach the Bible with the presupposition that “ every word of God is pure ” (Proverbs 30:5) so my devotions are mostly the result of topical word studies, that God has impressed upon my heart. I believe that God's actual “ words ” have been preserved (Psalm 12:6, 7) for me, and although I am not a great scholar and have very little natural, or learned abilities, I aspire to be a great believer and want to be remembered as such! So I am a Bible believer; I dare to believe that the Bible has the answers to all matters of faith and practice. Although I don't know all of the answers, I believe that I have all the answers, right here in my Bible. I want to be like Job, who said, “ the cause which I knew not I search ed out .” (Job 29:16). I hope that my writings will perpetuate this ambition and that the reader will be inspired, enlightened, and convicted, all at the same time. I have sprinkled the word “ friend ” into each devotion as a way to show myself friendly and extend a warm touch to the reader, because just as Jesus calls me his friend (John 15:15), I want to befriend others and remind them that “ there is a friend that sticketh closer than a brother ” (Proverbs 18:24); his name is Jesus, and he wants to be your friend too.

Feel free to contact me with your questions and / or comments, I would love to hear how God has used / is using these devotions in your life or in the lives of your loved ones! May these devotions speak to people that I will never speak to personally, and go to lands that I will never go to personally, and do in hearts what God can only do personally.

Till He comes, Steve…
